"Days of Our Lives" received six nominations for "The 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards", including four for acting categories. This is the first time an actor has been nominated for "Days" since 2004 (James Reynolds). This is the most acting nominations "Days" has received since also getting four nominations in 1989 (Joseph Campanile's, Jane Elliot, Arleen Sorkin and Darrell Utterly). "Days of Our Lives" now has received 170 Daytime Emmy nominations overall.
Thaao Penghlis (Tony & Andre) has been nominated for lead actor. He is the first "Days" actor to be nominated for playing two roles in one year, having played Andre from May-October and Tony from July-December. This is his first nomination. Overall, this is the ninth nomination for "Days" in this category. MacDonald Carey (Tom) won twice, in 1974 and 1975. Stephen Nichols (Steve) was the last to be nominated in 1988.
Judi Evans (Bonnie & Adrienne) has been nominated for supporting actress. She is the first "Days" actress to be nominated for playing two roles in one year, having played Bonnie from January-March and Adrienne from May-December. This is her second Daytime Emmy nomination, having previously won in this same category back in 1984 for her role as Beth Rain es on "Guiding Light." Overall, this is the tenth nomination for "Days" in this category. Suzanne Rogers (Maggie) won in 1979 and Leann Huntley (Anna) won in 1986. Patrick Darbo (Nancy) was the last to be nominated in 2000.
Darin Brooks (Max) has been nominated for younger actor. This is his first nomination. Overall, this is the eighth nomination for "Days" in this category. Billy Warlock (Frankie) won in 1988. Kyle Louder (Brady) was the last "Days" nominee in 2003. Brooks, 23, will be eligible for this category until May 27, 2009, when he turns 25.
Rachel Melvin (Chelsea) has been nominated for younger actress. This is her first nomination. Overall, this is the eighth nomination for "Days" in this category. No "Days" actress has ever won for this category. Christie Clark (Carrie) was the last to be nominated in 1998. Melvin, 23, will be eligible for this category until February 9, 2010, when she turns 25.
"Days" has also been nominated for Outstanding Hairstyling and Outstanding Makeup. This is the twelfth nomination for the "Days" hairstyling team, having previously won in 1988, 1995, 1997 and 1999. This is the thirteenth nomination for the "Days" makeup team, having previously won in 1988, 1991, 1992 and 1997. Long-time makeup artist Gail Hopkins has been nominated for the 13th time, the second-most nominated person for "Days" ever (Ken Cor day has 16 overall nominations as executive producer and music composer). Hopkins also holds the "Days" record for having won four Daytime Emmy's. The individuals nominated in both of these categories were not included in the early press releases as of yet, but will be listed as soon as they can be obtained.
The hairstyling and makeup winners will be announced Friday, June 13 at the Creative Arts portion of the Daytime Emmy's. The acting category winners will be announced live the evening of Friday, June 20 on ABC.
